Que missed posts

Firstly, thanks for an overall good service :)

I access my phone at random times but have long and unpredictable periods when it is not usable (meetings, out of service areas etc). After such a break, if several posts were scheduled during that period, I see multiple prompts but they all point to only the latest post. It would be great if missed posts could appear as a queue and I can then progress through the queue and get them all posted.

This would help people who do not have access to their mobile 24/7.

Thanks, Paul D

    Hi Roger,

Thanks for looking at this problem:

You say, "However, it sounds like this may somehow be screwing up when you open the mobile app from one of our notifications, so that might be a potential bug"

Yes - that is what I experience

"Can you copy/paste your last message and email it ..."

    Yes, I'll do that

"can you let them/us know whether you are on iOS or Android please"

I get the notifications duplicated to both an Android phone and also an IPad

    Cheers

    Paul D

    Hi Paul,

When you open the mobile app directly, you should see a section at the top of the Schedule tab that says "Ready Posts" - these are all the Past Posts, including any you've missed.  The future ones are below under "Scheduled Posts".

In general, the Post should only be marked as "posted" once you've specifically chosen it to be opened in the Instagram app.  (once that's done we have to assume it's been posted, since Instagram doesn't tell us anything in return)

However, it sounds like this may somehow be screwing up when you open the mobile app from one of our notifications... so that might be a potential bug.  Can you copy/paste your last message and email it to hello@later.com (our support channel) so it can get properly tracked back to you?

    Hi Roger, Thanks for engaging,

Yes, correct that I can see the full queue of posts that are ready to post. These are future posts. My problem is with PAST posts that have been missed. Here is the problem scenario:

I set up a month worth of posts in Later

For a few days I have continuous mobi access and Later prompts me with each post in turn. As long as I respond to each prompt in a timely manner, everything stays in order. So far so good :)

Then one day, I have an all day meeting and my phone is turned off. During that meeting, lets say 3 posts become due.

At the end of the meeting, I turn my phone on again. My notification area shows 3 Later icons, prompting that I have 3 posts due. I open a prompt.

Here is where the problem begins: No matter which of the 3 prompts I open, ONLY the most recent image and text is provided for posting. I follow the normal procedure and the most recent post goes to Instagram perfectly.

But the other two images are never received by my phone. However they are marked in the Later timeline as having been posted. They are locked out and I cannot access them.

So, that is the problem. Now here is a possible solution:

Instead of marking each post as completed when the NOTIFICATION IS PUSHED by your server, mark it as completed only when the IMAGE IS PULLED by my phone. Also, if a post is missed, queue any subsequent posts. Then when my phone asks to receive the posts, serve them sequentially in the same order that they exist on the timeline.

    What do you think?

    Thanks

    Paul D

    Hi Paul,

You should be able to see the full Queue of Posts ready to post inside the Mobile App under Schedule.  Is this what you mean?
