Would be great to be able to put in text without a pic. Good for planning out and spacing before assets are finished. Sometimes copy just comes to mind and you want to write it for Valentines day, etc!
When we devise a great user experience for adding placeholders we will add them in.
These notes should never be something that is "posted" it should just be a button that says "note" and it creates a note on that day that you can add whatever info you want. maybe there could be an option to get a notification 24 hrs in advance of that note to remind you if nothing has been posted there or something. but this note option would never have a risk of posting because it wouldn't be the same as a photo post.

I would love a way to add notes as place holders. But for now, I just have a white image with big bold text saying "PLACEHOLDER" that I use when I need to add something later.

Hey Later coders, just check out planoly! It is a free feature they have that is wonderful. Going to switch back and save money since it's free until you guys have this feature.

Same issue as Mandi Juskiewicz
We are posting a lot of IG TV post that are shared to the profile gallery, but since that does not appear in the Preview Tool it makes that feature useless. Since everything is scrambled.
I was excited when support told me that this was a features requested by the community and that was high on the priority list but I see its orignially from 2017!!
it would just be a placeholder where you can design a post add it to media and use it as a placeholder in the visual preview tool to signify a piece of content that will be posted through IGTV
Therefore everytime you looked at the preview tool it would line up corretly with your actual IG feed because the placeholder would act as the IGTV video that is being shared.

Later, this is something I am actually against. What would happen if a scheduled text post comes time to post and the media file has not been uploaded or assigned? Seems tricky.

Right not IGTV posts can come with Previews that post on your feed. These Previews are also NOT showing on the Later preview even after they are posted. Later has stated that instagram has not relased this new feature to be accessed by scheduler softwares (at this time). Social media is contantly changing. If we could have a placeholder NOTE that appears like a post for unique situations like IGTV preivews, other future intergrations, OR DAY-Of timly posts this could help schedulers imensly. All we would need is a block that shows in the calendar AND on the preview screen.
We'd need the option to keep the preview box on the feed or remove it after the item is posted to coordinate if it's a feature like IGTV previews that don't show on the feed OR if it's a timely post and something was posted that does apear on the preview. We also need it to appear BOTH in the calendar AND the preview screen. AND if it could send us a notification reminder on the note so we can remember to post the IGTV or check that Instagram's Creative Studio accuratly posted the scheduled feature OR do a manual post with content that must be created and posted on that day (example and event post - where maybe you can't take the image until the day of the event and then post it)
PLEASE ADD THIS! We are working on a campaign to frequently feature IGTV posts and the preview tool is now usless since it does not show these posts. Everything looks like a scrambled mess.

This is marked as planned - is this in the works?

In addition, the ability to upload these placeholders from a spreadsheet so we can create month's worth of placeholders all at once!

Hi Roger. Delighted to hear this is now in the works!

I would love this but i would also like to be able to put words on them and color code them so i can create a place holder with the specific category visible on the place holder in the preview

Hi Roger, I've read a couple of your comments about placeholders and the workarounds...and while I appreciate the suggestions they don't actually suit the way I actually want to schedule Instagram posts. As several users have suggested, it would be fantastic to be able to put blank placeholders in the visual grid rather than in the calendar view.
Having to use the auto-scheduler to pick times before the content is designed is counter intuitive and disruptive to my workflow (and doesn't support your stated principle to build flows around media items). I want to plan the look of my grid without scheduling the posts first - this is aligned with your desire to be "image first", it's just being more strategic about the big picture of my feed before diving into individual media items. My natural flow would be to map out/design the overall gallery, then select media, write my captions, and go back and schedule the times at the end.
Also, I love the idea of being able to add text to the placeholder (e.g. a draft caption).
Thanks for considering the idea and taking into consideration how your users actually work rather than forcing a particular flow to suit your software.

Some of our customers achieve this in two ways:
Since we are very much an image-first (and video) application, we want to maintain the flow of always building a Post around a media item - it keeps our UX simple, which is one of our big goals. Hope you understand
